I’m alive

So, if you’ve been following my blog, you probably would have noticed that I Have dropped off the Radar for a while. It’s been a matter of: University is back on, and I just haven’t had the time to really do anything for myself. I’ve been unlucky in the fact that I’ve had a pretty full timetable this semester.

Somethings that I have been considering lately is how best to use the Webspace that I have. I don’t have limits on how much I can store, but more it’s a matter of trying to use the webspace in an effective and meaningful way.

I do plan to have a “Dezonus Productions” section, there’s no doubt about that. Dezonus Productions is my brand identity, so it’s only reasonable that it should have a section. In there, I will probably store works that I am proud of, as like a portfolio if you will, as well as having sections for potential clients (once I figure out just what I want to offer).

Another thing that I want to do, possibly stored in the Dezonus Productions section, is create a HTML and CSS tutorial, to help people learn the basics.

The reason I want to do this is that I’ve had numerous HTML teachers throughout my years of Tertiary education, and a lot of them have been terrible. They go on about how many years of industry experience they have…and then can’t even solve basic problems.

HTML is not difficult. In fact, of all the coding I’ve done, it’s been some of the easiest. Yet it honestly seems like they think it’s this ultra hard thing to do, and they haven’t quite figured it out. I honestly don’t think it’d be hard to teach, and I could probably make up a zip containing everything someone would need to be able to do a simple website…

My feeling right now is, once I’m finished for the semester, I should really get stuck into these things. But for the next few weeks (because there’s not that much left), I’m going to have to disappear again.

The Dawn of the Quiet Beta

Dez-Game has entered a new phase. I’ve put in enough to justify having a small group of close friends test it in what I’m calling a “Quiet Beta”. This means that it’s up online, but hidden and password protected. Reason being, It really doesn’t have enough in it yet to justify being available to the general public; Last thing I want is somebody to see it in a fairly empty state and judge it as a finished product and not come back.

Still, progress is progress…

More Idle games, More Ideas for my own…

Yesterday, Hysting (a good friend of mine) introduced me to A Game. He showed me A Game, and I am quite fond of A Game.

Knowing full well that I’ve likely already lost you, A Game is a new Idle Game that hasn’t been out real long. It’s Based on Minecraft, kind of a Minecraft meets Cookie Clicker type thing…

Any way, I’ve played that a bit now, Formed Team Dezonus, so If you do give it a shot, come join me.

I think I’ve gained some inspiration from it, Namely, I’ve decided to set up the Dezonus Forums. On there, will have a dedicated forum to Idle Games among other cool things…

Now I’m off to go do that.

The Mental Exhaustion also Known as coding Dez-Game

So I’ve been Meaning to add stuff to Dez-Game for Quite a while now. Even though I haven’t been working on it, I have been thinking about it a lot, so when I sat down today, I knew exactly what I needed to achieve. What I didn’t realize, was how much effort it would take, and how long. I’m sitting here frantically typing this up, knowing that I need to leave for work in about 8 minutes, but knowing that I achieved what I wanted to today.

In case you’re reading this, and you don’t know about Dez-Game, it’s a little Javascript clicking game that I started to make at Uni for a HTML subject…lets just say I did things in true Dezonus Spirit, and WAY overdid what I needed to do. The result, however, is something that will only require a couple of days before I’m happy to publish online as a discreet beta Release. If you like Cookie Clicker, but think it’s a bit too simple, you will Love Dez Game…But I’m getting side-tracked…

Lets just say…there’s a lot of work to make a save string for a game with multiple buildings that give multiple resources…

Little tweaks of satisfaction

So I’d been meaning to add or update something on the site for a while now, but I generally find myself too busy. But today I had a free day, and so I began work again.

I’d noticed for a while that the host had provided pages for 404 errors and the like. Stuff like 401s, 405s 500s etc. as well; they clearly were trying. Anyway, the provided pages had their logo on it, but they were replaceable pages, so I ended up redesigning them a bit to match Dezonus.com more. See here Dezonus, com – 401 error page

So I had changed all of them, all the time knowing that the main one of importance was 404, as I haven’t even heard of most of the others. I found a list of well designed 404 pages, and decided I would give it a shot…and here’s what I came up with: 404 Error page

Personally I’m proud of it. I did, however, keep the other 404 page, so if I get sick of it, I can always change it back…

Concern for Orteil (Cookie Clicker)

My Girlfriend got a Windows Surface the other day. It’s like an Ipad, but Micrsoft brand and running Windows 8. She was showing me some of that Apps that she put on it, and she was showing me how she had gotten Cookie Clicker.

I’m Quite fond of Orteil’s Cookie Clicker. I’ve gotten to the point where you have an absurd amount of Cookies per second (378,118,134,915.8 to be precise, and that’s with the Elder Covenant Invoked), and she has been too after I introduced her to it. However, at a glance, I could tell straight away, This wasn’t Orteil’s Game…

What this was, in fact, was somebody who had copied the concept of Orteil’s work (with a few minor tweaks), copied the name, and then chucked it on the app store. Doing a quick google search, I found that there is also another one for windows phone. Links Below:

http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/en-us/app/cookie-clicker/9836dd85-7ca3-4d04-a3fe-780340ec2998/m/ROW

 http://www.windowsphone.com/en-au/store/app/cookie-clicker/6a3e1df7-da1c-4103-a3d2-b8d9d098d677

I’ve sent a message to Orteil via his blog, I do hope he can at least get them removed from the windows store, as frankly what they are doing is dishonest and unfair. I personally would not have a problem with it if the name wasn’t the same, and the games at least looked different, but these are just blatant copies…

It’s Alive once more

So I finally did it; I finally went and finished the main page of dezonus.com, and it looks spectacular (or at least I think so).

The Red eyes are in their rightful place and state; Huge and ominously glaring from the dark. I’m very proud of how it’s come out.

I know I still have a lot more work to do to make pages for Dezonus Productions and a few other subsites. I’m not even 100% sure what I’m going to put up, I want to have 3 though. I’m thinking Dezonus Produtions, Dezonus Industries (Yeah the Dez-Bot stuff can have their own site), and I’m thinking Dezonus Gaming; A site where I can both write about any games I feel like writing about, as well as have links to my own games.

But all this is to come later, for now, I’m going to enjoy Christmas, as I think I made myself a pretty good Christmas present here.

So It Begins…

If you’re reading this, I would like to do a few things. Firstly, I would like to welcome you to my blog. I’ve never done a blog before, so it’s kind of a scary new frontier for me. I don’t know how well it will go, I don’t even know if anybody will read it, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. I’m not even sure what exactly I’ll write here. I don’t intend to use this like people use Facebook; that is, posting random links to articles/YouTube/whatever else they think is cool in that moment. I do intend to make this space meaningful, but this will likely also mean that postings are infrequent. I’ll likely post about significant thoughts and updates to any games that I end up releasing

The second thing I would like to do, is thank you for reading this. I hope that you’ll check in from time to time, and I have no doubt there’s a way to subscribe, but of course that’s all up to you.

I’m hoping to have at least part of dezonus.com up and running soon, however it’s quite likely that people wont see this before then…
