Getting Nowhere

So, I’ve been job hunting since November, and so far, I’ve gotten nowhere. I’m going to go talk to Swinburne’s careers people later this week, and perhaps that will help, but I’m getting doubtful about it all.

Meanwhile, JTown is having fantastic luck at finding web clients. So, I begin to think, maybe I should tell all these web recruitment people where to shove it, and actually become a legit freelance developer. If the web job recruiters don’t want to hire me, I’ll make them wish that they had. I mean, I do thoroughly enjoy web work, and I do a pretty kick-ass job, so…

Sure, it’s not as good as having a secure income and what not, but I feel like I’m kind of running out of other options.

At any rate, I’m going to do some work on the Dezonus webspace today. It gets a bit neglected with everything else, so it needs it.

I’m alive

So, if you’ve been following my blog, you probably would have noticed that I Have dropped off the Radar for a while. It’s been a matter of: University is back on, and I just haven’t had the time to really do anything for myself. I’ve been unlucky in the fact that I’ve had a pretty full timetable this semester.

Somethings that I have been considering lately is how best to use the Webspace that I have. I don’t have limits on how much I can store, but more it’s a matter of trying to use the webspace in an effective and meaningful way.

I do plan to have a “Dezonus Productions” section, there’s no doubt about that. Dezonus Productions is my brand identity, so it’s only reasonable that it should have a section. In there, I will probably store works that I am proud of, as like a portfolio if you will, as well as having sections for potential clients (once I figure out just what I want to offer).

Another thing that I want to do, possibly stored in the Dezonus Productions section, is create a HTML and CSS tutorial, to help people learn the basics.

The reason I want to do this is that I’ve had numerous HTML teachers throughout my years of Tertiary education, and a lot of them have been terrible. They go on about how many years of industry experience they have…and then can’t even solve basic problems.

HTML is not difficult. In fact, of all the coding I’ve done, it’s been some of the easiest. Yet it honestly seems like they think it’s this ultra hard thing to do, and they haven’t quite figured it out. I honestly don’t think it’d be hard to teach, and I could probably make up a zip containing everything someone would need to be able to do a simple website…

My feeling right now is, once I’m finished for the semester, I should really get stuck into these things. But for the next few weeks (because there’s not that much left), I’m going to have to disappear again.

Little tweaks of satisfaction

So I’d been meaning to add or update something on the site for a while now, but I generally find myself too busy. But today I had a free day, and so I began work again.

I’d noticed for a while that the host had provided pages for 404 errors and the like. Stuff like 401s, 405s 500s etc. as well; they clearly were trying. Anyway, the provided pages had their logo on it, but they were replaceable pages, so I ended up redesigning them a bit to match Dezonus.com more. See here Dezonus, com – 401 error page

So I had changed all of them, all the time knowing that the main one of importance was 404, as I haven’t even heard of most of the others. I found a list of well designed 404 pages, and decided I would give it a shot…and here’s what I came up with: 404 Error page

Personally I’m proud of it. I did, however, keep the other 404 page, so if I get sick of it, I can always change it back…

It’s Alive once more

So I finally did it; I finally went and finished the main page of dezonus.com, and it looks spectacular (or at least I think so).

The Red eyes are in their rightful place and state; Huge and ominously glaring from the dark. I’m very proud of how it’s come out.

I know I still have a lot more work to do to make pages for Dezonus Productions and a few other subsites. I’m not even 100% sure what I’m going to put up, I want to have 3 though. I’m thinking Dezonus Produtions, Dezonus Industries (Yeah the Dez-Bot stuff can have their own site), and I’m thinking Dezonus Gaming; A site where I can both write about any games I feel like writing about, as well as have links to my own games.

But all this is to come later, for now, I’m going to enjoy Christmas, as I think I made myself a pretty good Christmas present here.
